Out and About in Dubai

Today was day 7 of the new job but the first day that I was actually (physically) in my office. Can you believe the last 6 days were spent in Orientation classes? Holy moly - I am so orientation-ed out!

Now I have to deal with getting a workstation, email access, figuring out this new Office 2007 nonsense - I spent half my time today asking the “Question Mark” stupid things like, “How to open a file.” I think I got a migraine trying to figure out how all the menu functions were re-organized…ARG!

And the worst part is coming home all tired and drained without any motivation to move from the couch nor turn on my laptop to check emails, let alone blog. Now I know how my husband felt all these months!

Hopefully, I’ll adjust better next week, get back to the gym, and get back on a regular blogging schedule.

Was just checking my website statistics today and I noticed that even though I hadn’t posted anything in the last couple of days, my blog was getting more visitors than usual.

Turns out, my entry on Asian grocery stores was listed in a Dubai periodical - the GulfNews “Blogosphere” article for May 6. You can see for yourself by clicking here (my listing is the last one of the bunch).

I think it’s funny that I’m in the tabloid section.

Hurray!! After almost two weeks of not being able to access certain websites (namely ALL blogspot pages) due to blotched censorship (my theory), I am now able to access them again. Now I don’t have to go through anonymous proxies to view all my favorite blogs.

Wonder how long this will last before they start censoring again? I don’t know why the government bothers. Blocking a website usually increases a site’s popularity and surfers will just go through anonymous proxies to view them anyway.

I have been having a ton of issues in the last week trying to log on to blogger.com. Now sure if it has to do with the recent block of blogspot blogs by my internet service provider. In any case, I’ve decided to move to publishing my blog via Wordpress. Now, all the publishing files are stored on my sdangit.com server and I no longer need to log on to blogger.

However, as with all new migrations, they never happen without the usual hitches and glitches. I was hoping to fix all the kinks before this new site went live but last night I somehow completely (COMPLETELY!) f*cked up my blogger files and so had to move to this new version (much) sooner than expected. Bear with me as I try to fix the photos, permalinks, rss feeds, formatting, comment links, etc.
